Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is a surgical procedure aimed at correcting the shape, size, and structural issues of the nose. It can be performed for both aesthetic and functional reasons.
The nose, located at the center of the face, greatly influences the overall facial expression. Through rhinoplasty, visual concerns such as crookedness, bumps, and width can be corrected, while breathing problems can also be addressed. The goal of rhinoplasty is to create the most suitable and natural-looking nose shape according to the person's facial structure.
The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia and lasts approximately 2–3 hours. It can be done using either an open or closed technique. The choice of technique depends on the nasal structure and specific needs. During the operation, the nasal bones and cartilage are reshaped.
“Rhinoplasty is not just a nose correction surgery; it is a process of restoring facial balance and self-confidence.”
After nose surgery, a splint (a protective device placed on the nose) is used during the first week. Swelling, bruising, and mild pain may be experienced in the first few days. However, these symptoms usually decrease significantly within 7–10 days. Stitches (if any) and the splint are removed within 5–7 days.
Patients typically return to social life after 7–10 days. The final settling of the nose shape and resolution of swelling takes time. The nose contours become more defined within the first month, but the complete result appears within 6–12 months.
